Just found out that the alternative spelling of “womyn” originated from the first Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival in 1975.
I knew that spelling irked me for some reason (other than its silliness trying to replace “men” with a Y chromosome).

I’ve always found ‘womyn’ to be a pretentious and bitter term. And now I have even more reason for it to put me off.
